Once again The Food Network Magazine has found ways to make food preparation simple, easy, and yet very tasty

Ingredients

  • 4 slice Onions
  • 2 sprigs Thyme
  • 6 cups Beef broth
  • dash cognac
  • Salt and pepper

Directions

Cook 4 sliced onions and 2 sprigs of thyme in butter, covered, 20 minutes

Uncover: cook 1 hour, or until caramelized, stirring occasionally

Add 6 cups beef broth; simmer 10 minutes

Add cognac, salt, and pepper to taste

Top with gruyere toasts (see page on toasts/croutons for variations)
